He made Himself nothing

The Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 2 that Christ who is God, became a human servant and died in obedience to His Father. The writer of Hebrews tells us that he did this because he was looking forward to something with joy (that joy was you and me). Jesus Himself tells us, that He did it because of His love for God and His love for us.

One Sunday morning I was in a doctors lounge at a local hospital looking for breakfast. Two men were engaged in a conversation about religion. One stated, “The problem with the world is religion.” He then proceeded to go on a semi-rant about the evils committed in the name of religion. I should have joined in the conversation, but I did go away thinking. You see everyone has a religion, because the most important questions in life only have religious answers. Science cannot tell us where we came from, or where we are going. It cannot determine meaning or purpose or any other metaphysical truth. The answers to all of the big questions in life are religious answers. Through science we learn how to kill and how to heal, but science cannot help us in determining which one we ought to do.

Three great questions are: am I aware or my religious views, what are they, and am I living in accordance with them? If the heart of my religion is God dying for His enemies so that they may become His friends, I will keep thinking, but I will also join in the conversation.
